Afternoon tea at Palm Court, Kimpton Fitzroy London HotelBest for: immersing yourself in Bloomsbury’s most historical hotelThe 18th-century landscape gardener Humphry Repton is widely credited with having brought many of London’s squares to life with his nature-first approach. His gift, as he called it, was most famously bestowed on Russell Square, elevating the area and leaving a permanent mark on Bloomsbury. The result is a green, serene space; the natural light and presence of nature itself is at once calming and elegant. Interior designer Tara Bernerd is behind the hotel’s renovation, and this is a space so smart I’d have been content having afternoon tea in the mosaic-floored lobby. But the cool, airy Palm Court makes for a lovely change from some of the over-stuffed, over-fluffed tea rooms in London.
